A new visitor to the area around my house. The great tit is the largest of the European tits. Their natural diet is insects but in the garden they will eat nuts, seeds (especially sunflower) and kitchen scraps. Less agile than blue tits they spend most of their time feeding on the ground or the trunks of trees.
There are approximately 1.6 million breeding pairs in the UK and they are increasing in abundance and range, mainly due to milder winters in recent years.
